Those of us who move around the city by bike know that we must be prepared for daily urban adventure. You never know if it will end up raining and you will need a raincoat, if you are going to have a flat tire, if you are going to be able to stop to eat, if you are going to need an extra lock for having to leave the bike parked in an unsafe place … That’s why we carry those family-sized backpacks, they are increasingly more compact, eventhough it has the same storage capacity. In Santafixie we have, in our opinion, the best brand for backpacks, Chrome Industries.
The brand was born in Boulder, Colorado, in 1995, when the first backpack came out of a simple Juki sewing machine. Made with a special canvas that is used in the military and in car seatbelts, it was already clear that the following models to come would be: robust. Very robust.
Here are some of the best urban backpacks from Chrome Industries.
Compact. This is how we would define the Kovac Sling. It’s a shoulder bag made of nylon with 5 liters capacity. It has a special compartment for a small U-shaped padlock and two straps at the bottom to wear a folded jacket. Small but bulky. Available also in Black and Navy.
The Urban Ex Sling is better than it seems. It looks small, but it fits up to a 13″ laptop in its 10-liter capacity. It has internal compartments, to have everything well organized. It’s made of lightweight Knurled Welded ™ fabric, and is completely waterproof. The outer straps are used to carry your bike lock. Also in khaki and black colors.
A new and extravagant version of the mythical Barrage Cargo, in a chrome finish. Thanks to it’s compression straps, the storage capacity can go from 22 to 34 liters. In the outer net it’s possible to store a helmet, slippers, a cardboard box … whatever you want. Obviously it’s waterproof, has an “industrial” strength velcro and is very comfortable to wear, even with a heavy weight, thanks to the ergonomic padded handles and the safety lock on the chest. We also have it in Navy, Desert Camo, Black and Brick.
The Mazer, like the Barrage Cargo has a rolltop closure, which is very useful to adjust the backpack to the load you carry at all times. Thus it is more compact, easier to carry and more comfortable when carried with few things in it. With a very minimalistic design, the Mazer Ensign Rolltop has a capacity of 21 liters, incorporates a padded cover for a 15″ laptop, is waterproof and has a quick access pocket on the front of the left handle, at chest height.
Surely you have not seen this. The backpack-suitcase. The main compartment of the Summoner backpack can be opened wide, like a suitcase and with a vertical zipper for the front pocket. Very easy to quickly find the mini-tripod and record a video while derifting with the fixie. Internal separators will allow you to have everything super organized. It also has two handles on the sides to grab it by hand. Yes, like a suitcase. Its camouflage design is brutal and its capacity is 32 liters.
